Inspired by the plains zebras, Zavier's bold black and white stripes make him an individual and striking zebra. The main head is knitted in stocking stitch starting with ear flaps and decreasing to shape the crown. Stranded knitting is used throughout the pattern. The features are knitted separately, sewn together then attached to the head. The snout is stuffed with toy stuffing which together with Zavier's striped ears gives a fantastic 3D effect.  Zavier is finished with his eyes, eyelids and a super stripy mane.

What We're Reading

All my Stripes: A Story for Children With Autism by Shaina Rudolph and Danielle Royer

Zane has had a tough day at school and he is scared that all his classmates can see is his “autism stripes”. His mother explains he has many different but fantastic stripes that make Zane who he is. A beautifully gentle story with fantastic stripy illustrations.

My Name is Zedonk by Jai Han

Zedonk’s Mama is a donkey and his Papa is a zebra, they are similar but a bit different too. But they are in love so it works. A charming story explaining acceptance and love in diverse families. Maybe, Darcy the Donkey can play the part of Mama.

How the Zebra Got its Stripes by Golden Books, Ron Fontes

Enjoy four different stories about how the zebra became stripy, was it painted on, was it his pyjama’s or my favourite did he run so fast he tore his shadow. The book ends with some fun zebra facts.
