Poet the Parrot is inspired by Treasure Island's Captian Flint, with his bright colours he truly represents the Scarlet Macaws of South America. We start with a little colour work to create Poet's stripy wings. The main head is knitted in stocking stitch, with a little intarsia work behind the eyes, then decreasing to shape the crown. The features are knitted separately, sewn together then attached to the head. His giant beak creates his fantastic 3D features especially when accompanied by his black and white eyes and long tail feathers trailing down his back.

The basics have been mastered and ready for something a bit more intricate, this pattern uses colourwork in intarsia and/or stranded knitting. This pattern will use advanced shaping and may introduce lacework
