Inspired by the beautiful Narwhals found in the Arctic Sea. Nerissa is knitted with chunky marbled wool doubled up to get a random skin effect on her topside and white yarn is used for her underside. Starting by shaping her tail fin and work up the tail to the side fins. Working briefly in intarsia to highlight the mouth, she is finished by decreasing to shape the crown. Nerissa’s eyes are knitted separately and attached to the head. Nerissa is completed with her magnificent horn which is actually a large "tusk" from a protruding canine tooth.

What We're Reading

Not Quite Narwhal by Jessie Sima

Join your friend Kelp on this lovely journey of self-discovery. Does he belong with the Land Narwhals or the Sea Unicorns? Check out our pattern for Unity the Unicorn to complete the story.

Wendell the Narwhal by Emily Dove

Wendell wants to make music like the other sea creatures. Together Nerissa and Wendell can use their long pointy tusks to conduct the ocean orchestra and make beautiful music.

The Lost Narwhal by Tori McGee

Mel the Narwhal has travelled too far from home, he meets Penny the Baluga Whale and tags along with her pod, but Mel doesn’t fit in, he sings a different song and looks different. Perhaps Nerissa can show him how to fit in until he is reunited with his Narwhal friends.
