Hero the Harp Seal will keep you warm in the chilly weather, he is made with Super Chunky Blanket Yarn to give him a snowy, furry, cuddly look. You could use Super Chunky Yarn instead but he won't be as soft as Hero. We start with Heros tail using a bit of the intarsia technique.  Working up the main head is knitted in stocking stitch including ear flaps (flippers) and decreasing to shape the crown. The features are knitted separately, sewn together then attached to the head. Hero has jet black eyes, a nose and is finished with a small amount of embroidery to highlight his features.

What We're Reading

Selkie by Gillian McClure

Peter is drawn to Seal Island but his Grandmother forbids it. Peter can’t fight his temptations and when he arrives he helps Selkie, a girl in sealskin. She teaches him the language of the ocean but can Peter help Selkie when she is captured but the greedy Oysterman?

Sealed With a Kiss by Beth Ferry

Seal has just arrived at the zoo and wants to make friends but her fishy kisses do not have the desired effect at first. This is a clever and funny story of acceptance that uses an array of adjectives to introduce to young readers.

Mister Cleghorn’s Seal by Judith Kerr

Mister Cleghorn finds Charlie the Seal abandoned on a rock and decides to bring him home. With a few mishaps and adventures, Mister Cleghorn is determined to make Charlie happy. A lovely story with Kerr’s classic artistic flare.
