The striking contrast of the different wools and basic stitches gives Dana her distinctive mallard look. Starting with her feet, use the stranded knitting technique to work the colours. Continue up her legs in stocking stitch. Finish by decreasing the crown.  The features are knitted separately, sewn together then attached to the head. Dana’s beak is stuffed with toy stuffing to give a fantastic 3d effect.  Dana is finished with bold black and white eyes.

What We're Reading

Duck, Duck, Moose by Joy Heyer

Duck is lonely, his best friend goose has flown away for the winter. Can you and Dana help Duck find new friends to play a game with? This is an enchanting book with lovely illustrations.

The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck by Beatrix Potter

Dana may not look like Jemima but with the beautiful watercolour illustrations, you will be whisked away to the farm and Mr Todd’s garden. Check out Fable the Fox and he can play the part of the cunning villain.

Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal

This simply lovely book shows how people see things differently. Dana the Duck may need the help of her buddy Reed the Rabbit to discuss if you see a duck or a rabbit.
