Join Carlito el Calaca to celebrate El Día de los Muertos, The Day of the Dead a Mexican festival to remember dead ancestors. His head is knitted flat in stocking stitch starting with ear flaps, then working intarsia to shape the skull and introduce his facial features, the hat is finished by decreasing to shape the crown. Carlito is topped with a stuffed hat decorated with marigolds and his mouth is then embroidered to create his wicked smile.

The basics have been mastered and ready for something a bit more intricate, this pattern uses colourwork in intarsia and/or stranded knitting.  This pattern will use advanced shaping and may introduce lacework.
