Join Catalina la Calaca to celebrate El Día de los Muertos, The Day of the Dead a Mexican festival to remember dead ancestors. Her head is knitted flat in stocking stitch starting with ear flaps, then working intarsia to shape the skull and introduce the brightly coloured patterns, the hat is finished by decreasing to shape the crown. Her teeth are knitted separately, sewn together then attached to the head with embroidering work between the teeth to create her smile and emphasise her skull shape. Purple flowers are attached as eyes and traditional carnations are attached to decorate Catalina and celebrate life.

The basics have been mastered and ready for something a bit more intricate, this pattern uses colourwork in intarsia and/or stranded knitting.  This pattern will use advanced shaping and may introduce lacework.
