Inspired by Badger, in The Wind in the Willows, Bartlett (meaning son of the earth) is a bold and striking badger. The two tones are simple but effective. The main head is knitted flat in stocking stitch starting with ear flaps we work in intarsia to create the shape of his face, decreasing to shape the crown.  The features are knitted separately, sewn together then attached to the head. The snout is stuffed with toy stuffing which together with Bartlett’s nose creates a fantastic 3D effect.  Bartlett is finished with his black and white ears and eyes.

Difficulty Rating

Intermediate

The basics have been mastered and ready for something a bit more intricate, this pattern uses colourwork in intarsia and/or stranded knitting.  This pattern will use advanced shaping and may introduce lacework

What We're Reading

The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

One of my personal favourites! Bartlett will make a perfect Mr Badger. Step into the Wild Woods, have adventures with friends and try to keep Mr Toad in order. Muse the Mole, River the Rat and Tilia the Toad will make great companions in this beautiful woodland story.

A Big Help by Daniel Fehr

Badger is very upset, he has lost his Teddy! Bear sees him and wants to help. This is a funny and charming picture book with brilliant illustrations follow the duo and see if they can find Teddy. Visit our patterns page as Buddy the Bear would love to help too!

A Friendship Yarn by Lisa Moser

How could we not mention a book about a badger and porcupine who both knit? When they find the wool in the woods it threatens their friendship as they both want to knit with it but their friendship is strong and they find their way back to each other.
